Hello world

 ¡Hola amigos!

I have spent one week in the MTC so far, and it's my first P day! My district is full of many fun Elderes and Hermanas (who are reading this, hi guys) and we are learning Spanish muy rapido! I think I've learned and spoken more Spanish than I ever did in high school already after one week.

Before starting classes, I packed up all my stuff and moved down to the basement, which used to be David's room. For a few days his tuba was still down there. My mom asked him if he needed to practice, and he said, "I can't practice, my tuba's in the MTC!" :)

One thing that I was bad at in high school was actually speaking in Spanish and making sentences, so I'm trying to speak in Spanish as much as I can in class and with my family. I'm starting to think in Spanish, well sort of. Mostly I think in English with a heavy Spanish accent. I have unconsciously started to reflexively respond in Spanish when talking to my family, like si, gracias, no sé, muy bueno, etc.

Whenever I talk a lot in Spanish my siblings (David and Becca) just speak back in Chinese to me, I guess to prove a point that they are also learning another language? I don't know. It's not helpful. Also, I got Emma to go on a walk with me one day because she didn't know what I was saying and just responded with "...si??" (by the way, the only thing Emma knows how to say is "uno dragón en el baño," very useful phrase...)

Having MTC classes online is interesting. I wish I could be there in Mexico with my teachers and district, but we are making the best of it. I have 3 hours of class in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, and calls with my companion, Hermana Stewart, for our study together. My teachers have a hard time saying my name and I am frequently called Hermana Smiley. I like it.

The spirit is still the same, regardless of where everyone is and how we're being taught. I've read the scriptures this week more than I ever have. My favorite scripture I read this week was Deuteronomy 31:8. "And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed."
