CHILE!!!!

Holy cow incoming news! I get to go to Chile on February 25th! My mission president called me Wednesday night and I knew instantly why.. He said, 'Sister Smalley, how would you like to go to Chile?' and I was just like, 'OK!'

Basically my job now is to not get Covid!

Well I don't really have much else to say this week, haha!

It snowed for a few days here and it was pretty funny about how everything shut down over a few inches of snow. My companions are from Arizona and California and so they aren't used to it. They kept telling people that we weren't used to the snow, but I always told them that I was in my natural habitat! It was quite disappointing that we couldn't drive, because we couldn't go to church this Sunday, and it wasn't even sticking to the ground. I hope I can get to see some of our friends in person before I leave!! I've been one time in person, but only got to see two of them. I'm hoping I can see our friends Roberto and David.

We have a friend named Maritza who is honestly the greatest. The first week I got here and started teaching in Spanish, we had a lesson with her and I was like, "okay, I can do this." She insists she wants to get baptized in April. not any time sooner. She is like our grandma, calls us her "niñas." She goes between talking to us in Spanish and in English with a New York accent. She told us she doesn't understand the Bible at all any time she reads it. Also she told us that the Book of Mormon is like the "newest testament" which is true! Well we quickly found out that she couldn't understand it because she didn't have a Spanish Bible, and gave her one! We also gave her Come Follow Me for the New Testament. She was so excited. She said she has understood everything so far!

This week I have been reading in Exodus. Moses doubted himself at the beginning. A LOT. Even when God told him he could do it, he kept insisting he couldn't do it. Self doubt is powerful.

Exodus 12:10-12

10 ¶ And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

Basically God tells him, "I made you this way, and I know you can do it!" God knows exactly our capacity, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, because that's how He made us. He knows everything about us.

Sometimes we fall in the trap of thinking that we are somehow supposed to do everything by ourselves. We forget that we have God on our side, the all-knowing, all-powerful, loving, Creator of the Universe!

Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Hermana Smalley

Oh yeah the "su responsibilidad" song is something that our district leaders sent us, I played guitar over top of him! It was the best I could do with limited technology.
