Hi everyone!! *Obligatory apology for lack of emails* but ñeh. It's fine. I'm back.
I'll write a few points to give you some updates.
I now have 15 months in the mission. Time is passing too fast.
We have a friend who is working hard to live the word of wisdom, but we reached a point where really didn't know how to keep helping him. We gave him the 12 steps, we gave him specific goals. We followed up with him frequently. But really what's made the difference has been giving him a specific baptism date in January. The first lesson after we gave him a date he told us that he's really made some significant progress in quitting smoking and drinking tea!! It's super hard for him because he was smoking more than a pack a day, and drinking like 20 cups of tea a day. But now he's smoking like 9 cigarretes a day and he stopped drinking tea 👀 We consider this a miracle.
I had a great transfer with Hermana Chaipul, but now she got transferred and I'm with a new companion, hermana Rojas! She is from San Bernardo, like 30 minutes away, in the Santiago South Mission. I like making fun of that sometimes, like, there are buses that go by that go to San Bernardo. It would be so hard. She likes video games, especially first person shooters. She can solve a rubiks cube, and she's teaching me. I'm learning very fast!! I can solve the first two layers fairly quickly.
A few weeks ago I got bit by a dog on my shoe when we were riding our bikes
This week we've had 3 separate, crazy interactions with people who were on drugs. Two phone calls (fortunately not in person) and one in person. Wild.
We lost half of our friends because now we only have Villa La Foresta. There are elders in Peñaflor! We got 12 new missionaries!! 1 sister. 11 elders. 11 of them are gringitos (from the United States) and I forgot how tender it is when they don't know how to speak spanish🥰
Our district is great!! We spent the majority of the day with them. I've made good friends with some elders named Elder Dowling and Elder Banry 😛
A lot of chilean missionaries are leaving to go to their original assignments in Argentina and Uruguay! 😳 Sad. My friend Hermana Gaete left :(
I got kinda wild and studied a lot of the Old Testament this week, Im kind of obsessed with Jeremiah. It's not the most interesting to read the verses because there's not much that I understand.. but I was studying the book of Jeremiah in general and a bit about who he was. here's what I learned.
Jeremiah: He told God that he couldn't be a prophet because he was too young, and he didnt know how to speak. God told him that he shouldn't fear because He would be with him, and his words. Throughout Jeremiah's ministry he was rejected, opposed, belittled, one time he was literally thrown in a muddy dungeon and left there to starve to death! But he remained strong in his faith and was a prophet for forty years. He was like Mormon, left to prophesy destruction and wickedness to a people who didn't listen. He was one of the only prophets that lived to see his prophesies fulfilled. The book of Lamentations is literally just Jeremiah being sad about the destruction of Israel.
Welp that's everything that I wanted to write, It's still early in the day, who knows if I'll add anything later.
Bye!!
